  Jane Satterfiled was born in England and educated in the US, taking an MFA from the University of Iowa. She has received grants from the Maryland State Arts Council, the Arvon Foundation, and in 1996 was John Atherton Scholar in Poetry at Bread Loaf. In 1996, her manuscript Shepherdess with an Automatic was a finalist in the National Poetry Series and for the Colorado Prize. Her poems have appeared in Antioch Review, North American Review, Quarterly West, Indiana Review, Sonora Review, Hayden's Ferry Review, Scratch Magazine and elsewhere. "Pavlova's Physics: The Poems of Jo Shapcott" is forthcoming in the Spring 1997 Antioch Review, and an article on the United Kingdom's writing programs appeared recently in AWP Chronicle. A Pushcart Prize nominee for 1997, she teaches at Loyola College in Maryland.
